Mormon No More

I guess it's about time I did this. My mom asked that I not seek excommunication until she was dead, even though I've been contemplating the move for years. Mom's still alive, but I just can't stand it anymore. Sorry mom.

Member Records Division, LDS Church

50 E North Temple Rm 1372
SLC UT 84150-5310

This letter is my formal resignation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it is effective immediately. I hereby withdraw my consent to being treated as a member and I withdraw my consent to being subject to church rules, policies, beliefs and 'discipline'. As I am no longer a member, I want my name permanently and completely removed from the membership rolls of the church.

The LDS promotion of bigotry in the United States has saddened me, and made me question my fragile association with the church. Recently, I have realized that being “inactive” does not separate me enough from you; I feel tainted by your intolerance, your intrusion into the constitution, your religious rape of civil rights, and your lack of respect for the separation of church and state. Any association with you is now so repellent to my morals and sense of equality that I can hardly live in my own skin knowing that it was once forcefully dipped into your baptismal font of bigotry.

The prejudice of this church was evident during the Civil Rights movement, when your dogma regarding blacks was full of disdain, hatred and intolerance. You have yet to officially repudiate that position. Now that you have again decided to fight against human rights, I have no choice but to remove myself completely.

The Mormon stance on gay rights has appalled me. I don’t care how you define marriage in your temples, churches or doctrine, or what magical panties you wear to legitimize these activities. Hell, you once defined marriage as “a union between a man, and a woman, and a woman, and a woman.” But a civil marriage, one that the government condones and recognizes, should NOT be defined by religious bigotry and fear. Propaganda, paid for and promoted by the church, has stripped a civil right away from a select group of people that you view as undesirable, and this is absolutely unacceptable to me.

My resignation should be processed immediately, without any 'waiting periods'. I am not going to be dissuaded and I am not going to change my mind. I expect this matter to be handled promptly. I expect a letter confirming my resignation.

Sincerely,
me
